Meet the Executive Board

Name: Liz Hamel
Position: President
Year: Senior
Major: Journalism and Political Science with a certificate in Global Health
Why I Joined STF: I joined She's the First because I am passionate about the power of girls' education to break cycles of poverty, produce better health outcomes, and promote gender equality. When I found out about She's the First at the beginning of my freshman year, I was inspired by the work our chapter was doing to sponsor girls in Guatemala and raise awareness on campus. I continue to be inspired by our chapter members and the girls we sponsor.
Interesting Fact: I have three dogs that are all poodle hybrids: a goldendoodle, a labradoodle, and a cockapoo.

Name: Megan Diermeier
Position: Executive Vice President/Vice President - Community Outreach and Engagement
Year: Sophomore
Major: Spanish, International Studies, and Political Science
Why I Joined STF: Women’s rights have always been of extreme interest to me, not only regarding places where women may have fewer legal rights or social opportunity, but right here at home as well, where there is still much work to be done. I am privileged to be able to enjoy such a valuable education here at UW-Madison, and I’ve come to learn that an education is the most important thing in the world, no matter where a person lives. It has been an amazing experience to be able to give that support and enjoyment to girls like myself, and hear all of the amazing things that they have gone on to do, both in their community and the world. Anybody and everybody can change the world each day that they walk it, and it’s this message that made She’s the First stand out to me at such a bustling org fair!
Interesting Fact: I studied abroad in Costa Rica this past winter interim, and survived my first (and last) hitchhiking experience when two friends and I got stranded at the top of a volcano.

Name: Katie Cable
Position: Vice President - Fundraising
Year: Senior
Major: Math and Economics with a certificate in Business and Leadership
Why I Joined STF: I originally joined She's the First because I heard about the cupcake bake sales, and I really enjoy baking. After going to the first meeting and learning what She's the First is all about, I realized that I cared a lot about what She's the First was doing for women's education, and I'm passionate about what we do.
Interesting Fact: I don't have a half birthday.

Name: Maddy Horan
Position: Vice President - Communications
Year: Senior
Major: Journalism and Mass Communication with a certificate in Digital Studies
Why I Joined STF: I joined She's The First my freshman year of college originally because I wanted to get involved in such a big school and find ways to make it smaller. But I have stayed with She's The First because there is a strong sense of community within our chapter, and education, namely girls education, is something I am extremely passionate about.
Interesting Fact: I studied abroad in Rome, Italy from January-May 2015 and had the opportunity to travel to seven different countries.
